REGISTRATION AND ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

Parents registering their child for kindergarten must provide the following documentation in order for a child to be officially enrolled:

  1. Proof of age by birth certificate, baptismal certification, passport or affidavit by parent, guardian or custodian.  (A child must be five years old on or before November 1, 2012, to be eligible to participate in the 2012-2013 kindergarten program at public schools.)

  2. Proof of immunization against: 10-day measles, mumps, and rubella--(a series of 2 MMR); polio  - (4 doses total, or 3 doses with the last dose after age 4); diphtheria; pertussis (whooping cough);  tetanus (DPT)  - (5 doses total, or 4 doses with the last dose after age 4); Hepatitis B - (a series of 3 shots); and Varicella vaccination or documentation of Chickenpox disease.

  3. Proof of results of TB skin test and/or chest x-ray administered on or after February 1, 2012 for Landell students and all other elementary schools on or after March 1, 2012.

  4. Proof of complete physical exam on or after February 1, 2012 for Landell students and all other elementary schools on or after March 1, 2012.  (Students with TB skin test and/or physical exam dated June 2011 - January 31, 2012, may be enrolled but will require an updated exam prior to May 2013.)

  5. California law, Education Code Section 49452.8, now requires that your child have an oral health assessment (dental check-up) by May 31 in either kindergarten or first grade, whichever is his/her first year in public school.  Assessments that have happened within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement.  The law specifies that the assessment must be done by a licensed dentist or other licensed or registered dental health professional.

ENROLLMENT PRIORITIES CONSIDERATIONS:

During the kindergarten pre-registration period, open enrollment is in effect from February 17, 2012 through May 11, 2012.  In accordance with Administrative Regulations (AR) 5116.1(a), all eligible kindergarten registrations will be accepted, if all health requirements are completed by June 1, 2012:

AR 5116.1(a):

After all children within each school=s attendance area have been placed, remaining placement requests will be honored according to the following list until a given school has reached its defined enrollment capacity as determined by the Superintendent.

  1. Students who are siblings of any student currently in attendance at a school.

  2. Students whose residence is not within the school=s attendance area, but    whose parents/guardians request an intradistrict [and/or interdistrict] transfer.

  3. Students who move into the district after the open-enrollment period, (approximately May 14) may apply for a position in a school within their specific attendance boundaries, but will be accepted on a space-available basis (Board established class size average).

When a category has more applicants than openings, a lottery will be conducted for prioritization of enrollees.

The school district is committed to low class sizes; however, class size will ultimately be based upon State support, maximum utilization of facilities, and instructional priorities as determined by the Board of Trustees.

Day Care Eligibility

The District requires that an eligible child must be enrolled in a school before he/she is considered eligible for day care at that particular school site.
